Once upon a Greek city there was a magnificent pool. It was known as the magnificent pool. It was... magnificent! Beautiful, lovely, and... magnificent! Poseidon was the one who had made this pool, as a place for people to worship him. Secretly, he was trying to get more people to worship him than his brothers and sisters. His plan worked, better than he thought. The people of the city loved this pool, and started to build more temples for him than usual. He was getting more fame and glory than all the gods. Most of the gods didn't notice; Zeus was too busy with all of his LOVE matters, and all the other gods were used to not getting much fame.
The only god who noticed was Hades. Hades didn't care for fame, but he did not want Poseidon to get more power. He looked down at all the people bathing and playing in the magnificent pool. He had a plan.
Some days later, several people were swimming in the pool when the earth started to shake. The ground split open and from it came four skeleton warriors. They started trashing up the place, using their giant battle scythes. People were running and screaming everywhere. Then, from the water, came bursting forth, seventeen great water horses. They ran head on into the skeletons.
"Stop!" From the water came Poseidon, the great water god himself. "What is the meaning of this, Hades?" He stormed.
"Ah," said Hades malevolently, "I've come to join the party." With that, he swept his hand across the water, instantly killing every mortal in it. Poseidon quickly slashed Hades in the face with a whip of water.
"AAHG!" Hades yelled, but quickly regaining his balance, he whipped around to confront Poseidon, only to realize exactly how powerful Poseidon was. Poseidon, fully dressed in battle armor, holding up his trident, was ready. There were great tsunamis surrounding him, a tornado of water was holding him in the air. Hades thought of this for a while. There was no way he could take Poseidon down.
"How about this?" He proposed, "Tomorrow at sundown each of us will bring a champion to fight. Whoever wins gets to do what they want with your magnificent pool. Otherwise, I will just destroy it."
So it was decided, and the next day at sundown, they each presented their champion. The champions fought bravely on the grounds of the magnificent pool, each demonstrating great power and awesome skill- ooooh, it was magnificent. But the champion of death was triumphant in the end, and Hades cursed all mortals to die as soon as they touched water.
Later, after Hades was gone, Poseidon looked upon the dead in his pool, not being able to take the spell off, he changed it, so that every time we humans get in the water, instead of dying, we shrivel up as if we were dead.
